Rose Vehec (Dorothy) and family from Geneva took first place in the "Paws on Parade" Halloween Dog Costume Contest held Sunday benefiting The Beverly Animal Shelter in Waterloo. " Emergency Landing "
Rescues crews from Schuyler, Seneca and Yates counties responded to a report of a plane down in Seneca Lake on Sunday afternoon. The pilot began having engine trouble and was unable to make it to Penn Yan airport. The plane landed in Seneca Lake and the pilot was able to exit into his emergency raft. Members from the Himrod Fire Department rescued the pilot from Seneca Lake and brought him into Lodi Point where he was evaluated by medical personnel. The plane has yet to be located. Al Anderson, the lead guitarist for the original Wailers lays down some reggae riffs Friday night as The Wailers played the Smith Opera House. The concert was presented by Hobart and William Smith colleges, and made possible by a grant from the New York Music Fund. " Night In A Box "
This past weekend several high school students slept in cardboard boxes to raise awareness about homelessness and substandard housing in Seneca County. Students from all across the county representing Romulus, Seneca Falls, South Seneca, and Waterloo school districts attended the event. Entitled “Youth Encampment 2007: It’s more than just a night in a box,” the project was hosted by the Seneca County Youth Council in partnership with the United Way of Seneca County. It was fully funded by the ACT for Youth initiative, part of the ACT for Youth Center of Excellence at Cornell University. United Way of Seneca County is one of twelve recipients statewide of the New York State Department of Health “ACT for Youth - Collaboration for Community Change” grant.
