In a ceremony this fall in Indianapolis, Hobart and William Smith Colleges received an award from the federal Department of Education for “Most Valuable Players,” a program designed to promote healthy behavior among intercollegiate student athletes directed by H. Wesley Perkins, professor of sociology;and David W. Craig, professor of chemistry.

" Grant for Waterloo Gymnasium "
Senator Mike Nozzolio recently met with members of the Waterloo Sports Boosters and Village of Waterloo officials to present them with a $60,000.00 New York State grant for improvements to the gymnasium. The center is utilized by the entire community and the renovations will allow the Center’s recreational programs to continue. The Seneca County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) graduated another nine people on Thursday night. " Technology Farm Ribbon Cutting "
Chairman of the State Assembly Agriculture Committee Assemblyman William Magee, State Senator Michael Nozzolio, Dean of Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Susan Henry, New York State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan Rudgers, NYS Assemblyman Brian Kolb and the Chairwoman of the Sate Senate Agriculture Committee Senator Catharine Young cut the ribbon Wednesday morning during the dedication ceremonies of the first building at "The Technology Farm". a new 72 acre agriculture and food technology park in Geneva. The park has been in the planning and development stages for 10 years and over $8 million dollars in public and private funds have been put towards the park so far. Senator Mike Nozzolio today stood with veterans from across the Finger Lakes and announced that he has taken action to create a world class Veterans cemetery at the former Sampson Naval and Air Force base as a final resting place for veterans. Standing with him are veterans representing all branches of the military including Commanders of the Air Force and Navy veterans' organizations.

Zell Cooper of Geneva heard about the winning ticket. She buys her tickets everyday at Baroody's. but she says she was not the big winner this week. " Hollywood Invades Auburn "
Friday and Saturday in Auburn wll be the first time ever that Willy Wonka's Oompa Loompa's and Munchkins from the Wizard of Oz will appear together. It happens in Auburn at the T&K Hardware store at 76 State Street. Standing outside their limo Friday morning are Mike Stewart, a Judy Garland Collector. Some of his original Judy Garland dresses will be on display. Myrna Swensen, Munchkin by marriage. Malcolm Dixon, an Oomph Loompa and an Ewok Warrior in Star Wars, Clarence Swensen, a Munchkin Solider in the Wizard of Oz. Gina Blaisdell from the Finger Lakes Radio Group, Rusty Goffe, an Oompa Loompa and Kabe/Jawa Gron Droid from Star Wars, and Margaret Pelligrine, the Munchkin Flower Pot Girl from the Wizard of Oz. Dave Haines of Endicott looks over damage from a street crossing signal pole that fell onto his Jeep while he was stopped at the light at Hamilton and Pulteney Street in Geneva Tuesday morning. The pole fell after it was hit by an out-of-control tractor-trailer that apparently lost it brakes while traveling west on Hamilton Street and jumped the curb running over a fire hydrant In the process.
