" Painful to Pump "
John Hopkins of Penn Yan fills his pick-up Wednesaday morning at the Geneva Fastrac as regular unleaded gas had just hit the $3.00 a gallon mark. Managers at the store say they expect to increase the price of gas to $3.24 per gallon by the end of the day Wednesday. " Katrina Hits Gas Prices "
Hurricane Katrina has hit the the Finger Lakes Region. Tuesday area gas stations, like the Mobil station on The Waterloo-Geneva Road, increased the price following the storm that closed gasoline refineries and oil rigs in the in the Gulf of Mexico. The Waterloo gas station's $2.83 per gallon is an increase of 16 cents a gallon since yesterday. Photo by Greg Cotterill.

The 2006 governor's race is underway as New York Attorney General Elliott Spitzer's wife Silda Spitzer visited with Democratic party members in Seneca Falls Wednesday. Mrs. Spitzer says her husband is not worried about who Republicans will offer for a candidate now that Gov. George Pataki has announced he will not seek a fourth term. About 50 local Democrats met Mrs. Spitzer at Bonadent in Seneca Falls. " A Fungus Among Us? "
The ghost plant (also known as Indian Pipe), photographed in Yates County, is not a fungus at all, but is often mistaken for one because it's white and doesn't have any chlorophyll.
