A month after fire destroyed the barn and the cows that were in it, the barn is rebuilt and the new herd arrived today. Tonight was the first milking and I stopped by on my way home to take a peak at the barn. It amazes me that it all happened so fast. Were it not for the hours of donated time from volunteers to help rebuild, this would never have been possible. I'm sure they are thankful for all the hands that helped, but also look forward to some time to themselves and hope to find life returning to normal.

On the 90 degree days these bats would lower themselves for a bit of fresh air to help keep themselves cool from the little circulation up in their box. I could hear them shifting about and squeaking amongst themselves as they were communicating away. The guano that is piled up (bat poop) is a magnificent fertilizer but the dust of this should not be breathed in, which might cause the hantavirus - something that needs to be taken seriously.
