" Red-tailed Hawk "
The Oneidas, one of the six nations that make up the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Confederacy, have studied hawk and eagle hunting technique. When a hawk sees a mouse, he dives directly for it, as opposed to an eagle, who sees the whole pattern and detects movement within it. Also, a bit of research revealed that, particularly among Native American traditions, the Red-tailed Hawk is seen as a strong symbol of visionaries and spiritual messengers. Because the hawk is able to soar high above the earth, as if it were flying into the heavens, it has a perspective of the "bigger picture," which we cannot experience with our "feet on the ground."

" Who Would Have Thought! "
After enjoying a sunny Saturday in Canandaigua, we were driving back to Naples along West Lake Road and spotted swans on the ice. Most were Mute Swans but one was a Trumpeter Swan with a yellow wing tag, J68. It was the same bird I had seen in Canandaigua’s Lagoon Park on January 9, 2014 and had posted a picture on FingerLakes1.com at that time. Checking out the tag, I found the swan is part of a banning program performed by the Trumpeter Swan Restoration Group in Ontario, Canada. So what are the odds that I would encounter this lovely bird once again, on a different area of water, 25 miles from where I saw it last?
