We are very lucky to be able to enjoy stream walking in the Finger Lakes Region for several reasons. The streams are shallow and the beds are hard and not muddy... and, they are mostly public. The temperature in a gorge is usually 10-15 degrees lower than out in the sun and it feels like air-conditioning! The stream's water doesn't get much over 60 degrees even in summer so getting wet feels mighty good when it's 90 degrees and humid everywhere else. Kids have an absolute blast doing this. I watched dozens of them hooting and hollering as they splashed each other and butt-slid down polished cascades into pools. I want to take my grands stream-walking! People of all ages can enjoy stream-walking with a modicum of common sense.
