Fact – The Village tax has increased 5.43%on an annualized rate per year since 2000 as compared to inflation which was 2.70% per year since 2000 (Source: Individual Village tax bill and ftp://ftp.bls.gov/pub/special.requests/cpi/cpiai.txt). Fact – The new Town budget will be $1.8 million less than the two current Town and Village budgets combined (Source: Village of SF Dissolution Plan, Final Report – Page 55). Fact – The tax rate paid by former Village residents will drop from $16.92 per thousand to $8.82 per thousand – a 48% savings (Source: Village of SF Dissolution Plan, Final Report – Page 56). Fact – Rumored loss of police protection is misinformation. The Town has agreed to provide a Town-Wide police force in the event that a Police District is denied by NYS. Either way there is police protection! (Source: Village of SF, Letter to Residents 2/3/2010; Town of Seneca Falls proposed inter-municipal agreement discussed at public meeting held January 7, 2010 ). More Facts: One full layer of Government bureaucracy will be eliminated (e.g., one zoning officer, not two; one department of public works, not two; one set of administrative employees, not two; etc.). Lower taxes make our community more attractive and competitive for new and existing businesses. Lower taxes make the value of your home increase. The average Village full-time employee is paid $58,348 per year. The Seneca Falls median income is $43,400 per household per year (Source: http://www.seethroughny.net; http://quickfacts.census.gov). It’s been said that the service level will decline under Town authority. The Town has agreed to provide the same level of service we currently enjoy (Source: Town of Seneca Falls proposed inter-municipal agreement). Besides, won’t we, as taxpayers, hold them accountable? Don’t be misled by misinformation – look at the facts. Vote for Dissolution – End the Gridlock! |
