Home Run Derby
Friends of Geneva Baseball 2nd Annual HOMERUN DERBY FUNDRAISER! On ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬Saturday April 26, 2014 Friends of Geneva Baseball will be sponsoring a Homerun Derby to raise funds for Geneva’s Baseball Program! Money raised during the fundraiser will be divided up amongst Geneva Little League and Geneva High School Baseball. The homerun Derby will be held at the little league top field, field 1. Anyone who would like to participate can enter; it will be $20 for 10 outs. The Homerun Derby will be an evening of fun! The event will start at 5pm, and the championship round will immediately follow the qualifying round. Rules Each participant is thrown pitches by a pitching machine. The hitter has the option of not swinging at a pitch. If they swing at a pitch and miss, or hit the pitch anywhere but in home run territory, it is considered an out. Each player hits until he receives 10 outs in each round. Individual totals will be recorded throughout the day, with the top 2 from each age group squaring off in a championship round. Should there be a tie in the first round or championship round, a Swing-Off takes place. In a Swing-Off, each tied player gets five swings to get as many home runs as possible. If after the 5 swings a tie still remains, players get one more swing to determine the winner. All players participate in the first round; the 2 highest totals from round one will move to the finals for their age group. If you have any questions, please call Darrell Carey at (631)766-2725, Jeff Pierce at (585)694-9606 or Chris Buisch at (315)759-9724.

Executive Chef Rodriguez and Sous Chef Hassler will go head to head in the kitchen to create a three course meal – an appetizer, entrée, and dessert each – incorporating a “featured” ingredient into each dish. As they craft their menus they will be put to the test, striving to highlight the ingredient beautifully and to earn your vote as the winner of our first ever Pan2Plate Challenge! As for the featured ingredient, you decide! We are taking a vote – will it be bacon, chocolate or cheese? Following an announcement on Facebook @GlenoraWineCellars and Twitter @Glenorawine , voting will begin this Friday, April 4th and will last for one week. The timeline is as follows: Friday, April 4th: Voting Begins Friday, April 11th: Voting Ends Monday, April 14th: Featured Ingredient Announcement Friday, April 18th: Menu Announcement The Twist The creator of each menu will not be revealed until the night of the dinner; providing a “blind” tasting for the guests. After each course has been enjoyed and judged the chefs will come into the dining room and reveal which dish was theirs for each course. How it Works During the dinner guests will enjoy each course and pairing back to back from each chef. After both dishes of a course have been tasted, the guests will judge the plates on four criteria: Taste, Presentation, Creativity, and Wine Pairing. Guests will be provided with score cards throughout the dinner. After the judging of the first course, Chefs Rodriguez and Hassler will enter the dining room and reveal which dish was theirs. Entrees come next, followed by desserts, which will be judged and revealed in the same manner. At the end of the meal, the results from each course will be tallied to reveal a winner.
