Home School Nature Series– Meet a Scientist, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Wildlife Biologist
Feb. 19, Friday 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Homeschool students ages 5-12 will learn from Wildlife Biologist Linda Ziemba during an interactive and educational program. Ms. Ziemba will highlight the special adaptations of animals who live in Montezuma’s forests, marches, ponds, and fields. This will feature indoor and outdoor activities. Be ready to explore! Feb. 19, Thursday, 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Raptors have invaded the Montezuma Wetlands Complex and now is a great time to see them! Hop in the Montezuma Audubon Center van for an excursion to Montezuma’s premier birding locations to encounter Snowy Owls, Short-eared Owls, Bald Eagles, Rough-legged Hawks and more! Nature of Montezuma Lecture Series– Bird Banding with John Van Niel
Feb. 20, Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Dr. John Van Niel is a Professor of Environmental Conservation at Finger Lakes Community College. Dr, Van Niel has been a bird bander since 1999, working primarily with song birds. Participants will learn how to safely capture and handle wild birds, the scientific reasons for placing bands on birds and what information researchers can obtain from a bird "in the hand". Cayuga Lake Birding Van Tour
Mar. 4, Friday, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Cayuga Lake is an Audubon designated Important Bird Area because of the incredible number of waterfowl that use the lake during winter and migration seasons. Hop in the Montezuma Audubon Center van for an excursion to the northern part of the lake where up to 30 species of ducks, geese and swans can be seen. Mar. 5, Saturday 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m Get ready for a moonlit snowshoe adventure! We’ll travel along the trails at the MAC looking and listening for wild creatures of the night.
