The Starfire Travel Club welcomes Carnival Cruise Lines youth counselor Marshall Merritt of Marcellus to speak at their next club meeting, Wednesday, May 29th at 6 p.m. at the Marcellus Library, 32 Maple Street, Marcellus, NY. Admission is free and everyone is encouraged to bring their friends.
Merritt has just returned from cruising on the Carnival Spirit for six months in the South Pacific, touring destinations including Sydney, Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; Fiji; and Hobart, Tasmania.
“New Zealand was my favorite,” explained Marshall Merritt. “The people are very friendly, their culture is interesting and the scenery is so beautiful.”
Merritt is eager to share photos and stories of his experiences from the world down under.
“I had the opportunity to do such amazing things at the age of 23,” said Merritt. “I played Cricket. I visited the shire where the popular film series “The Lord of the Rings” was filmed and I had lunch many times in the Sydney Opera House.”
Merritt has worked as a youth counselor for Carnival Cruises lines since June 2011. His previous sailings include six months on The Carnival Liberty and eight months on The Carnival Magic.
Travel experts, Don and Mary Merritt of Marcellus invite the public to participate in the free travel club they formed to bring people together who are excited about travel.
The next meeting of the club is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Marcellus Free Library.
“We’re hoping this club will help bring people together so they can team up and get back out to explore the world,” explained Mary Merritt, a freelance writer and Associate Professor of Communications at Cayuga Community College. “I’ve met so many people who would like to travel but they’ve lost their loved one and they’re not comfortable traveling alone.”
Light refreshments will be served. If convenient please RSVP by calling 315-673-9194 or emailing donandmary@starfirecruises.com, however, walk-ins are welcome.
