Corning Community College’s Small Business Development Center is offering “Basics to Business Planning” on Wednesday, December 2nd from 9:15-10:45 a.m. at Corning Community College’s Small Business Development Center, 24 Denison Parkway West Room 104, Corning, NY. This seminar will discuss the necessary steps to formalize your business and business plan development. There is no charge for this seminar, but pre-registration is required by November 30th. Seminar speakers Anthony Presti, Energy Specialist from SUNY Farmingdale and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority representatives will detail measures which, when implemented, will produce maximum savings for the business owner. Business owners will learn how they can work with NYSERDA and SBDC advisors to: implement energy efficiency projects, secure the financing to achieve energy efficiency or even to build green buildings, evaluate other renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, improve environmental performance (being greener), evaluate energy efficiency opportunities in all areas and improve the bottom line. |

Corning Community College to Host Midday Concert Series |
Corning Community College will host several Midday Concerts during the fall 2009 semester. Join us for an hour of beautiful music with Nolan DeSanto and friends on Thursday, November 5 at 12:30 p.m. in R004, Learning Center, Spencer Hill campus, Corning. DeSanto is a pianist and graduate student in Mansfield University’s new Collaborative Piano degree. He will perform musical selections with other musicians as duets or small ensembles.

Suites, Sonatas and Standards by Peter Bloom and Mark Leighton includes the dazzling Grand Duo for Flute and Guitar by Mauro Giuliani, a colleague of Beethoven and Rossini in Vienna's golden age and a leading guitar virtuoso in 19th Century Europe. Other selections include music of Francis Poulenc, Jacques Ibert, and Heitor Villa-Lobos, along with treasures from the Great American Songbook by George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, and George Shearing.
Peter H. Bloom is a soloist and ensemble flutist who tours internationally with classical and jazz ensembles and appears on 30 recordings from labels including Sony Classical, Newport Classic, Dorian, Leo Records and 9Winds. He has given recitals from Boston to Bangkok and performs with leading ensembles including Ensemble Chaconne, Olmsted Ensemble, and the New Mendelssohn Quintet Club. Winner of the American Musicological Society’s coveted Noah Greenberg Award; he is an acclaimed classical artist and a noted jazz player, now celebrating his 32nd season with the internationally renowned Aardvark Jazz Orchestra. The Boston Globe called his playing “a revelation for unforced sweetness and strength,” while Jazz Improv praised his “exquisite melody.” Bloom serves as historical performance consultant for The American Museum in Britain, The New-York Historical Society, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, where he has given numerous lecture-demonstrations and has recorded for the Museum’s audio tour of musical instruments. He is a board member of The James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition.
Mark Leighton is a classical and jazz guitarist known for his wide-ranging repertoire. He has performed as a solo recitalist and ensemble player across New England, appearing at venues such as Colby College, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum, and Boston’s historic King’s Chapel, the Post Office Square concert series in Boston, the Thomas Crane Library in Quincy, and many others. Leighton is a regular member of Copley Chamber Players. He serves on the Applied Music Faculty at Colby College, teaches at Eastern Nazarene College, and served previously as Artistic Director of First Night Quincy. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, Leighton studied with noted guitarists Robert Sullivan, David Leisner and Sharon Isbin, among others.

“Celebrating 200 Years of Franz Joseph Haydn” - The performing ensembles of Corning Community College, under the direction of Loueda Bleiler and Melvin Williams, will present a concert of works featuring the music of Haydn. This performance will include excerpts from one of his choral masterworks, “The Creation”.

Peer Safety Patrol "
On Thursday The South Seneca Elementary School has a Safety Patrol Program that is designed to use patrol members as role models for younger children. They teach other students about safety on a peer-to-peer basis. The benefits of having a Safety Patrol Program range from leadership development and other aspects of personal growth, to developing a sense of volunteerism in service to others.
