HELP Needed for Waterloo in Bloom
Waterloo in Bloom will hold their first meeting of the year on Tuesday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Waterloo Village Office at 41 West Main Street (use side entrance by gas station). Beginning their 14th year, they are welcoming new members to adopt a container or flower bed. The group depends on the generosity of donations from local businesses to pay for all of the flowers, while the Village waters them. Volunteers plant and maintain more than 50 containers, the weven welcome signs, beds along Virginia Street, and at the cemeteries. There will also be a spring clean-up of Vern’s Way with the date being decided at the April meeting. “We definitely need reinforcements to help keep our village flowers and Vern’s Way maintained. We know there are people in our village who love flowers and to garden. We want them to know that WE NEED THEM!”, states Darlene Duprey, co-chair of Waterloo in Bloom. “Come & join us as we prepare the Village for Celebrate Commemorate Memorial Day!" Donations are welcome. For more information contact Duprey at or 315-539-9010.

National Day of Prayer
Waterloo…Representatives from local Christian faiths in the village of Waterloo have been planning for the National Day of Prayer which will be held on May 7 beginning at 6:00 PM at LaFayette Park. Committee members are Nancy Gray from the Assembly of God, Judy Mayne from the United Methodist, Kathy Peters from St. Francis-St. Clare, Charlotte Carroll from Harvest Hill and Margaret Ann Williams from the First Presbyterian. The 64th National Day of Prayer is an annual observance which will be held in all 50 states on Thursday May 7th, inviting people of all faiths to pray for our Nation and its leaders. This year’s theme, “Lord Hear Our Cry” is based on the Scripture verse, 1 Kings 8:28 – “hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.” Judy Mayne, Waterloo’s chair, informs, “The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1775, the first Continental Congress called for a national day of prayer. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln called for a day of “humility, fasting and prayer.” President Reagan amended and signed a law in 1988 permanently designating the first Thursday in May as National Day of Prayer.” “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a Nation gone under.” Quote by President Ronald Reagan.
