Making a Mark: 6th Annual Art Exhibition & Sale
Seneca Cayuga ARC Finger Lakes Artists, Musicians, and Entertainers Center for Creative Expression hosts the 6th Annual Art Exhibition and Sale "Making a Mark” Meet & Greet the Artists First Friday, September 5th from 5-7 p.m. Reception with light refreshments. Free to enter, art is for sale & proceeds go to the artist who created the piece. Located at 39 Genesee Street Downtown Auburn, N.Y. Questions, call (315) 252-7016. Making a Mark is about enabling gifted people to celebrate self-expression and empowerment through creativity. Marks and lines are fundamental elements of art used to extend one's expressive vocabulary. Marks like building blocks, are individual and discrete, descriptive, conceptual, and symbolic in nature; can be used to render almost any visual effect. The way in which we make marks in large measure determines our personal style. Think of your own signature. The way in which you form the letters which comprise your name is a unique set of marks with legal and psychological significance. Artists refine their personal vocabulary of marks to develop their individual styles.

Fort Hill Cemetery Historical Tour
Remembering the People Who Made Auburn “History’s Hometown” When: Sunday, September 7, 2014 @ 2 PM, rain or shine! Where: Fort Hill Cemetery, 19 Fort Street, Auburn, NY 13021 Please join historian and guide Laurel Auchampaugh for a fascinating tour of the beautiful wooded Fort Hill Cemetery overlooking downtown Auburn. Its hilltop location, fortified many centuries ago by the mysterious mound building peoples of North America, later was reputed to be the site of an important Cayuga council seat and village. In 1852 the hilltop was dedicated for its current function; it remains an active cemetery today. On the tour you will learn about the lives of several eminent citizens who are buried there, including the man first buried here, Judge Elijah Miller, his famous son-in-law William H. Seward, his daughter and granddaughter. Elsewhere in the cemetery, pay your respects to abolitionist and humanitarian Harriet Tubman, to members of the Osborne, Willard, and Case families, and to many others who contributed to America’s story. Take a tour of the Gothic stone Bradley Chapel, and learn the story of a 50 foot tall obelisk inscribed, “Who Mourns for Logan?” In the event of rain, the talk will take place inside the Bradley Chapel. Tickets for the tour are $10 for adults, $5 for students. These may be purchased at the time of the tour, or in advance at the Willard Chapel, 17 Nelson Street in Auburn during office business hours Tuesdays through Fridays, 10am-4pm. Call 315-252-0339 for more information. This tour is sponsored by the Community Preservation Committee. Proceeds benefit the Fort Hill Cemetery and the Willard Chapel.

Details: The Finger Lakes Mud Run at Everest Park is a challenging, military-style trail run that’s intended to pit participants against one of THREE EXTREME COURSES. Yes, THREE! Each wave of participants joins a stampede of literally hundreds who’ll trudge through thick field grasses, over wooded underbrush, down and out of deep gullies, and ultimately face jaw-dropping obstacles––each designed to encourage teamwork and camaraderie. The Finger Lakes Mud Run has THREE courses in 2014! Our first is the 5K short course, which is designed for those who’re looking for a fun challenge, but aren’t quite ready for the big time! Our second course is the 14K long course that explores over 750 acres of dense forest, sun-baked fields, and terrain that even scares the wildlife! Our third course, introduced in 2013, is the ever-popular Mini Muddy. This course lets kids ages 6-12 get completely covered in mud, just like the rest of the family! The Finger Lakes Mud Run remains a volunteer-organized event that uses 100% of its net proceeds to extend the mission of Everest Park by offering a restful retreat for families of children who are experiencing life-altering health issues.

This eastern cottontail kit was injured, back when her eyes were still closed. I helped her along and because of this she imprinted on me. Everyday she hops up to me and greets me. This photo is not cropped, that's just how close she visits! A Funny Bunny she is.
