Bonna's Bonanza Small Business Saturday "Buy Local" Holiday Shopping Event
For more information, contact: Christie Anne Blaisdell Email: Phone: (315) 406-0317 Small Business Saturday Event Offers Local Products & Services Ideal for Gift-Giving Finger Lakes Mall to Host First “Bonna’s Bonanza” to Highlight “Buy Local” Holiday Shopping November 10, 2015 (Auburn, NY)…Small Business Saturday will be a big deal at the Finger Lakes Mall in Auburn, New York, on November 28th from 11 am until 6 pm. More than 25 local small businesses will showcase their products and services throughout the center of the mall. Not only will holiday shoppers be able to “buy local” from among unique and interesting gifts—including intuitive art, handmade woodworking décor, bath items, wellness products, handmade candles, jewelry, beauty essentials, Native American goods and artwork, custom-designed photo books and family keepsakes, and more—but they’ll be helping to make the first “Bonna’s Bonanza” a meaningful and sentimental tribute to local business woman Christie Anne Blaisdell’s mother, who passed away in July after battling cancer. “This Bonanza is a dedication to her,” says Blaisdell, explaining that her mother loved shopping for local goods at area fairs, markets, and shops, as well as Christmas shopping for her family and friends. During her travels to Chicago to undergo treatments, her friends would take her to area flea markets, where she’d visit with Mennonite families to buy crocheted sweaters, scarves, booties, and jewelry to bring home for her family. “Her first grandchild, Victoria, began calling her “Bonna” as soon as she began to talk, a nickname that affectionately stuck for more than 15 years. All six of her grandchildren and others called her Bonna, so I chose this name for this Small Business event as a dedication to her.” Encouraged by the success of the large Alternative and Holistic Healing event she coordinated at the Finger Lakes Mall in May, Blaisdell wanted to hold another event and attract more local small business owners to participate. Since that time, she’s been working directly with Vin Gleason of the Finger Lakes Mall for planning this holiday event, as well as Mary Dygert, Liz Bunn, and the security team to make it a reality. “I think it’s very important to keep things local and help families in our own community,” Blaisdell emphasizes. “Everyone I’ve worked with has been wonderful and very helpful, and I’m so happy about everyone who has reached out to be a part of the event. It’s gratifying to hear that so many also feel it’s important to keep it local.” Interesting, Blaisdell notes that the majority of the small local businesses participating in the first “Bonna’s Bonanza” are owned by women. Blaisdell herself—a Reiki Master Teacher and Ordained Minister—is the owner of Spiritual Healing, a business she founded in April 2011 that offers Reiki healing sessions, spiritual and Pastoral guidance, and other services; she added children’s yoga in 2014 and conducts weekly instruction for children ages 2 through 18 at the Finger Lakes Mall on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, as well as privately. Blaisdell, who also works in the Domestic Violence Program of Cayuga Seneca Community Action Agency, also owns Neat & Orderly, a housekeeping service business.
