FLFCU Presents artiststhree Exhibition featuring Elaine Liberio, Jan Romeiser, and Tina Yannotti Burgess
The Finger Lakes Federal Credit Union presents a tri-artist exhibition by three local artists, Elaine Liberio, Jan Romeiser, and Tina Yannotti Burgess. Their work is on display at the FLFCU Main Office (Geneva Branch) lobby and Loan Department. An opening reception with the artist will be held Friday, March 6th, 2015 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Credit Union’s Main Office. Light refreshments, including a wine tasting by Fulkerson Winery, will be provided. Elaine Liberio “Painting is exhilarating, especially Plein Air!” While Elaine loves studio painting, Plein Air painting has become her great love and this will be her third year in the Seneca Lake Plein Air Painting Festival sponsored by Billsboro Winery. Recently, Elaine has teamed up with two other artists, Tina Yannotti Burgess and Jan Romeiser to form “artiststhree”, painting and showing their work together around the Finger Lakes. Their first collaborative show was at White Springs Winery in the spring, followed by a show at Billsboro Winery and next they were at Main Street Arts in Clifton Springs for the months of December and January. Elaine is a member of Wayne County Council for the Arts and the Western Wayne Arts Group where she exhibits and sells her art. She also offers workshops and classes in oil painting, watercolor and drawing. One of her most fun workshops is “Oil Painting with Rags - No Brushes Allowed”. She is currently developing a website, www.liberioart.com. Her studio is located at 48 State Route 21, Palmyra, NY 14522. To inquire about workshops or to tour her studio, please e-mail her at liberioart@rochester.rr.com or call 315-945-2374. Jan Romeiser Jan had always enjoyed art classes in high school. Although it had been a big part of her, she did not pursue an education in it. She kept her hand at it for a while after she married in 1976. Kids were born and life flew by with little time for painting. Jan began painting again in 2006 after her daughters gave her everything she needed to start. In 2009, she started painting at the Pat Rini Rohrer Gallery and Studio II in Canandaigua. She has taken workshops with Judy Soprano, Dick Kane, Ann Larsen, Elaine Liberio, and a number of other artists. Under their guidance (and lots of independent painting) her talent is developing. Her paintings have been hung at Pat Rini Rohrer Gallery, Main Street Arts in Clifton Springs, Women Artists of the Finger Lakes shows, Phelps Art Center, White Springs Winery, and Billsboro Winery. She is a member of the Ontario County Arts Council rotating artists and has had her paintings in various businesses in and around Canandaigua. “Being creative in a small way, or in a great way, is a gift from God. Enjoy yourself, find your gift, your talent, and develop it.” To purchase any of the images that are on display at FLFCU, contact Jan directly and arrangements will be made to have them available to you as soon as possible. You can contact Jan Romeiser at her email at Janr415@yahoo.com (Please put a painting reference in the subject box), or call at 315-462-9603. Tina Yannotti Burgess My name is Valentina (Tina) Yannotti Burgess and my interest in Art began in grammar school and was my Major in High School. I attended FLCC taking classes in drawing and painting. For the past 6 years I have been studying with Pat Rini Rohrer in “Studio II” at the Pat Rini Rohrer Gallery and Judy Suprano. It was after attending Plein Air Painting classes in 2006 that I discovered that painting with oil was my passion. After painting with oil at this class, I discovered that mixing paint on canvas, and the fact that it didn’t dry right away, I could discover more colors and could move the paint around with more freedom. Oil painting wasn’t the only thing I discovered. I found out through painting local marinas, farms, and parks how lucky I am to live in such a naturally beautiful area. It was the serenity I felt in the presence of this area that compelled me, and brought out my passion to want to put that feeling and that beauty on canvas. To purchase any of the images that are on display at FLFCU, contact Tina directly and arrangements will be made to have them available to you as soon as possible. You can contact Tina Yannotti Burgess at her email at tyannott@rochester.rr.com, or call at 315-781-0537. Check out www.theartfarmgallery.com to see more of Tina’s work. Stop in the Credit Union to see the exhibit, which will continue to be on display through mid-May. After that date, another artist’s exhibit will be displayed. If you are a local artist seeking a location to display your art or photography, simply contact Pat Ely, Marketing Director, at (315) 781-1334 Ext. 134, for FLFCU Supports the Arts information.

Nerissa & Katryna Nields in Concert
The Nields 8 pm, Saturday, 7 March 2015 Hollis Cornell Auditorium, Goldwin Smith Hall, Cornell University Arts Quad, East Ave. Ithaca, NY 14851 In the 1990s, Nerissa and Katryna Nields formed a five-member band and were festival darlings at Falcon Ridge and Lilith Fair, admired for folk-rock-pop harmonies, deep and quirky songs, and high energy. The Boston Globe declared: “The Nields are young. They are hip. They are hot.” Today, many gigs and 17 CDs later, raising their children in western Massachusetts, they champion traditional community singing, refashioning old songs with great love. Much of their original material is inspired by Appalachian ballads, old-timey hollers, sea chanteys, and spirituals. They’ve released four CDs (and books) for children, as well as recordings that look honestly at the hard pulls of marriage, child-rearing, artistry, and commitment to the larger world. Their 2015 release, XVII, honors their hero, Pete Seeger. They promise their audiences: “You will sing. You will dance. You will not regret it.” Tickets: Ithaca Guitar Works, Autumn Leaves, Greenstar Market, Bound for Glory, online at www.cornellfolksong.org/ and at the door. $15 adv./$17 door; $3 rebate for members, seniors, teens. Cornell students $5. Children free. Info: web or 607-351-1845.

Opening Reception and Exhibit: Sisterhood of the Scissors
An impromptu visit to a Matisse exhibit at Rochester’s Memorial Art Gallery sparked a chord in a handful of regional fiber artists and resulted in the creation of a “loosely organized bevy of fiber artists from various points of western NY” calling themselves “The Sisterhood of the Scissors.” The upcoming Master Works exhibit running from March 20 to April 17th at the Flick Gallery in Penn Yan will feature work done by these seven fiber artists, as well as Raku fired pottery by Mike Carroll of Avon. The exhibit will also include work in many other mediums created by member artists. Enthralled by the line work of the great masters the Sisterhood’s initial challenge to each other was to create a 12 x 12 study in the style of Matisse. It was an interesting exercise with few rules – 12 x 12 and to be executed in fiber - and great fun to share the results. Each member of the group has favorite artists and together they’ve continued this adventure one foot at a time. On occasion one or more of the group will be unable to stay within the confines of the one foot square – a sort of ‘runs with scissors’ rebellion that they all embrace. Members include Caren Betlinski of Rushville, Julie Brandon of Williamson, Stephanie Ferris of Rochester, Ann Hawkins of Penn Yan, Elaine Ross of Batavia, Valerie Schultz of Honeoye, Liz Scott of Dundee and Kate Wylie of Farmington. This exhibit includes a selection of their exploration of favorite artists as well as pieces that showcase their personal fiber art. The exhibit opens Friday March 20th from 5 to 7 pm with wine tasting, live music, and hors d’oeuvres and is free and open to the public. The Arts Center is located at 127 Main Street, Penn Yan, NY, 14527. Phone 315-536-8226 or email artscenter@ycac.org for more information.

Peppermint Sewn Seeds Fashion Show
The third Peppermint Sewn Seeds fashion show will take place Sunday, March 29, at Good Luck Restaurant located at 50 Anderson Avenue in Rochester. The annual event showcases the talent of local designers in Rochester and proceeds will once again benefit Girls Rock! Rochester and Verona Street Animal Shelter. Designer and creator of the Sewn Seeds show, Tanvi Asher, will present spring ready-to-wear designs from Peppermint and her 2015 collection of handmade couture bridal gowns from Asher Bridal. According to Asher, “This year’s bridal collection will be more refined and cohesive, with romantic elements such as lace and ruching.” Fans of her ready-to-wear can expect to see clean, unpretentious looks inspired by the current normcore trend. Asher is once again collaborating with her Park Avenue neighbor, World Hair, for the show’s hair and makeup. Also returning for this year’s event will be collaborating designer, Josean Vargas, of J. Vargas. With a continuing focus on bright and vibrant color, his resort wear will take a cool refreshing dip in Caribbean waters. The collection will represent a lively, spirited woman, with different silhouettes to appeal to all body types. New to the Sewn Seeds roster is Katrina Elliott, whose work embodies an ever-changing but cohesive style. She has selected a mixture of textures, colors, prints and silhouettes inspired from the past, present, and future. Her goal is to showcase a combination of garments meant for stimulating and fresh results. A cocktail reception will precede the show at 1:00 PM and the runway show will commence at 2:00 PM. Tickets will be available on February 16 for online purchase at Good Luck’s website (http://inspiredtable.restaurantgoodluck.com) and will also be available at Peppermint. Limited VIP seating tickets are $65 and general admission is $30. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event and a portion of the show’s ticket sales will also benefit the two charities.
