Geneva & the Civil War
Kerry Lippincott, Executive Director of the Geneva Historical Society, presents "Geneva & the Civil War" on December 8th from 6-7 PM at the Geneva Public Library. The Civil War (1861 – 1865) touched every community in the United States. Villages far away from battlefields debated if the Union and the Confederacy should go to war, who should lead as President, and for what cause the war was being fought. As months turned to years, more men went to war and returned maimed, or died and were buried far from home. The causes and outcomes of the war are still debated 150 years later. Based on the Geneva Historical Society's exhibit, Now Is The Time of Our Country's Need: Geneva and the Geneva War, this program will examine how the war affected Geneva.
