Genealogy Research Club
The Genealogy Research Club at the Geneva Public Library, 244 Main Street, Geneva, focuses on collaboration and fun. Attendees will have the opportunity to share recent research successes and new research tools they have discovered as well as a chance to meet other community members interested in family history research. Attendees will also have the chance to use the Library's laptops to conduct research and print their findings with the assistance of a Library staff member. The club meets once a month on Saturdays at 10:00-11:30am.

4-H Forestry Workshop
Yates County 4-H Offers Forestry Workshop April 19, 2015 The 4-H program of Cornell Cooperative Extension-Yates County will hold an introductory forestry workshop on April 19th from 2:00-5:00 PM. Volunteer Master Forest Owners, trained through Cornell University, will lead participants through their woodlot near Branchport to explore wildlife habitat, learn about tree identification, and consider uses of different wood and forest plants. Cost $2 per youth. Open to all youth age 5 to 18; parents or guardians welcome to stay. Age 5 to 7 must be accompanied by an adult. The Watoto Choir will be performing their “Oh, What Love” tour concert at Lake Country Christian Church on the evening of Wednesday, April 22nd. This group comes through the Finger Lakes region only once every two years so you will not want to miss the pageantry and color of this event. Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes
Media Notice Antiques Club hosts April 23 program on Lighting Rose Hill Mansion. On April 23 at 7:00 p.m. the Antiques Club of the Finger lakes will meet at Rose Hill Mansion, 3373 Rt. 96A, Geneva, where Alice Askins will present a program on Lighting Rose Hill Mansion1809-1900. The public is welcome and there is no charge. The program will be a stroll through Rose Hill Mansion with special attention paid to the ways it has been lit over the years. The house has examples of lighting devices from candles to electricity, and they will be discussed in the context of Geneva and Rose Hill in particular. Alice Askins is Education Coordinator for Rose Hill, a property of the Geneva Historical Society. She developed a “behind the scenes” tour of Rose Hill last season and is currently drafting a two-house tour of the Johnston House and Rose Hill with a focus on women's experience. The Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes includes residents of the Finger Lakes with a common interest in antiques, collecting and local history. Programming includes lectures, demonstrations and occasional visits to local history sites.

Ithaca Roller Derby Wants YOU!
The Ithaca League of Women Rollers now holds a weekly roller derby style workout program, with sessions every Wednesday form 7-8:30 pm. New or returning skaters are welcome. The trainers are members of the Ithaca League of Women Rollers Interested skaters can drop in any time. The weekly sessions will be available into the fall. This is a perfect way to learn the game if you are considering trying out for our league next year, or just for some great exercise. Trainers cover the basics and skip the bone-crushing hits. Participants learn the game with some modified blocking rules. Since organizing in 2008 the Ithaca League of Women Rollers has grown into a league of more than 40 adult skaters. In 2010 they started a junior league of girls age 8-17. ILWR is one of 301 member leagues that make up the Women's Flat Track Derby Association, and is currently ranked 72. ILWR's 2015 season starts in April with an away game and features the SufferJets versus the Independence Dolls of the Philly Roller Girls in Philadelphia, PA. The first Ithaca home game is May 9 at Cass Park Rink and the SufferJets will play long-standing rivals, Roc Stars, from Rochester, NY.

Waterloo….St. Francis-St. Clare’s Knights of Columbus are in the process of raising thousands of dollars to purchase a new ultrasound machine for Care Net Pregnancy Care Center of the Finger Lakes. PCC Director Doreen Teed explains, "After the Knights raise the first $5000.00, an anonymous benefactor has agreed to make a matching donation of $5000.00!" In 2014 the Pregnancy Care Center located at 551 Exchange Street in Geneva served 584 clients, performed 61 ultrasounds and 102 pregnancy tests. Care Net PCC survives by private donations and has no government support. Teed states, "We are able to help women in unplanned or crisis pregnancies and provide education on abortion alternatives, including parenting and adoption.". Donations/checks can be made to Knights of Columbus Ultrasound and mailed to Care Net PCC of the FL, PO Box 733, Geneva, NY 14456. For more information call Tom Connors at 315-506-8777.
