More than 25 local small businesses will showcase their products and services throughout the center of the mall. Not only will holiday shoppers be able to “buy local” from among unique and interesting gifts—including intuitive art, handmade woodworking décor, bath items, wellness products, handmade candles, jewelry, beauty essentials, Native American goods and artwork, custom-designed photo books and family keepsakes, and more—but they’ll be helping to make the first “Bonna’s Bonanza” a meaningful and sentimental tribute to local business woman Christie Anne Blaisdell’s mother, who passed away in July after battling cancer. “This Bonanza is a dedication to her,” says Blaisdell, explaining that her mother loved shopping for local goods at area fairs, markets, and shops, as well as Christmas shopping for her family and friends. During her travels to Chicago to undergo treatments, her friends would take her to area flea markets, where she’d visit with Mennonite families to buy crocheted sweaters, scarves, booties, and jewelry to bring home for her family. “Her first grandchild, Victoria, began calling her “Bonna” as soon as she began to talk, a nickname that affectionately stuck for more than 15 years. All six of her grandchildren and others called her Bonna, so I chose this name for this Small Business event as a dedication to her.” Encouraged by the success of the large Alternative and Holistic Healing event she coordinated at the Finger Lakes Mall in May, Blaisdell wanted to hold another event and attract more local small business owners to participate. Since that time, she’s been working directly with Vin Gleason of the Finger Lakes Mall for planning this holiday event, as well as Mary Dygert, Liz Bunn, and the security team to make it a reality. “I think it’s very important to keep things local and help families in our own community,” Blaisdell emphasizes. “Everyone I’ve worked with has been wonderful and very helpful, and I’m so happy about everyone who has reached out to be a part of the event. It’s gratifying to hear that so many also feel it’s important to keep it local.” Interesting, Blaisdell notes that the majority of the small local businesses participating in the first “Bonna’s Bonanza” are owned by women. Blaisdell herself—a Reiki Master Teacher and Ordained Minister—is the owner of Spiritual Healing, a business she founded in April 2011 that offers Reiki healing sessions, spiritual and Pastoral guidance, and other services; she added children’s yoga in 2014 and conducts weekly instruction for children ages 2 through 18 at the Finger Lakes Mall on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, as well as privately. Blaisdell, who also works in the Domestic Violence Program of Cayuga Seneca Community Action Agency, also owns Neat & Orderly, a housekeeping service business. Originally from Auburn, New York, he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music and Indiana University’s Jacobs’s School of Music. Nicholas has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Moulin d’Ande Cultural Center in France, the Chautauqua Music Festival, the Skaneateles Music Festival as a winner of the Robinson Award. His master class performances include those of Menahem Pressler, Ursula Oppens, Jerome Lowenthal, Andre’Laplante, Evelyne Brancart, Kathleen Supove’ and Nelita True. As a chamber musician and accompanist, Nicholas has performed many full vocal and violin recitals, piano trios, piano duos and woodwind works. As a teacher, Nicholas had the position of Associate instructor in piano atIndiana University and is currently an adjunct Faculty member at New York University. His past teachers include John Spaulding, Natslys Antonova and Arnaldo Cohen, and he is currently working on a post Master’s Advanced certificate at New York University under the tutelage of Deirdre O’Donohue.

Ithaca Community Orchestra Concert: Orchestral Soundscapes
The Ithaca Community Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. James Mick, will perform a concert entitled “Orchestral Soundscapes” at 4:00 PM on December 5th at the Hangar Theatre. The orchestra will present the premiere of the Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra by Ithaca composer Josh Oxford, with Emily Ickes playing the solo marimba.  Though written for orchestra, the concerto draws on musical styles that stretch from the Baroque era to the twenty-first century.  Josh is an accomplished composer and performer, having formed and led his own jazz fusion group, the Oxtet, as well as writing various solo and chamber works.  This concerto is the second piece he has written for the Ithaca Community Orchestra. The program will also feature Bizet's lush Suite No. 2 from L'Arlesienne, Saint-Saëns' thrilling Danse Macabre, and Rimsky-Korsakov's megalithic Russian Easter Festival Overture. The public is invited to attend a reception held directly after the concert.  A recommended donation of $5 will be accepted at the door, and children are admitted free of charge.

The Seneca Falls Library Cookie Walk Fundraiser will be held on December 5, 2015 from 10am to 2pm at the library. The event will include the following activities: • The Cookie Walk: Revelers can purchase a box and fill them with their homemade cookies of choice donated by local bakers. • The Mini Holiday Tree Contest: A Creative contest that is open to all! Fatherhood Connection
The Seneca County Fatherhood Connection is an educational component of the Seneca County DHS Fatherhood Initiative. The mission is to empower and provide opportunity for skill sharing and development, access to resources, and strengthen families through connected fathers. Through 13 weekly meetings in a group setting the Seneca County Fatherhood Connection strives to rekindle the values that allowed men and families to prosper for generations. The next session will begin Thursday, December 3rd at the Seneca County Office Building, DHS Training Room (2nd Floor), 1 DiPronio Drive, Waterloo. Day session hours are 11:00am-1:00pm and evening session hours are 5:30pm-7:30pm. These sessions are offered to men at no cost. A meal is also provided at each session. Indoor Bulls Eye Pistol Matches at Waterloo Rifle & Pistol Club
Open to club members and the general public. Matches start at 7:00 pm every Thursday. Any .22 rimfire or centerfire semi-automatic pistol or revolver may be used. Iron sights and scopes are permitted. All firing is from the standing position using one or two hands. The NRA courses of fire are Slow Fire (10 rounds fired in 10 minutes), Timed Fire (10 rounds fired in two 5-shot strings -- 20 seconds each string) and Rapid Fire (10 rounds fired in two 5-shot strings -- 10 seconds each string. The Rimfire Match consists of two courses each of slow, timed and rapid fire (60 rounds total). The Centerfire Match consists of one slow and two timed fire courses (30 rounds total). Waterloo Rifle & Pistol Club (WRPC) belongs to the Finger Lakes Pistol League (FLPL), a postal league where individual scores are maintained in separate categories (one-hand, two-hand, etc.) for end-of-season awards. Participation in the League is optional. Shooters pay the club range fee (currently $3/member, $4/non-member) plus $1 to $2 for each score submitted to FLPL.
