Second Annual Cayuga Centers Golf Tournament
Area golfers are encouraged to form a team and register for Cayuga Centers’ second annual Golf Tournament to benefit the agency’s work. The shotgun start begins at 10:00 am Friday, August 22 at the Dutch Hollow Golf Course outside Auburn. The $340 price per team includes golf for the foursome, two golf carts per team, lunch on the course, refreshing beverages, a team photo and a prime rib dinner. Southern Cayuga Central School August 14, 2010 PUBLIC ASTRONOMY NIGHT at the SOUTHERN CAYUGA PLANETARIUM The feature, Birth, Life, and Death of a Star describes the evolution of stars, focusing on our Sun. It is accompanied by a stars-on-the-dome program, What’s Up. The show is at 7:30, Friday, August 22. Clear skies permitting, our nearby Observatory will open after the Planetarium presentation. The event is free and open to all. We take no reservations but advise arriving fifteen minutes early for the best seating. Doors close when the theater’s sixty seats are filled. Nature of Montezuma Lecture Series- Sport of Falconry
Learn the history of falconry, a sport that has stayed the same for the past 4,000 years at the Montezuma Audubon Center on Rt 89 in Savannah. On Saturday August 23rd from 1:00-2:00, you’ll meet Norma Jean Albright and her falcon, and they’ll teach you how this sport is still practiced today. Learn how falcons and falconers are hard at work all over the state for many different reasons. And you’ll be treated to a flight demonstration! Sunday Concert Series at Rose HIll Mansion
This summer the Geneva Historical Society is hosting a free concert series on the lawn at Rose Hill Mansion. For three Sundays, the grounds of Rose Hill will be alive with music and fun. Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy an evening of music to end a summer weekend in the Finger Lakes. Allen Hopkins rounds out the series on Sunday, August 24 with a performance of folk music, including American traditional, Celtic instrumental, blues, bluegrass and historical tunes.

Downtown Geneva Walking Tours
Discover downtown Geneva’s past this summer with the Geneva Historical Society. The Society’s archivist, Karen Osburn, and volunteer Joseph Rivera-Ramos will lead walking tours of downtown Geneva’s business district during July and August. The tours will run rain or shine the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. The July 9 tour will cover the eastern half of the downtown business district. The tour on July 23 will focus on the western half of downtown, and the tours on August 13 and 27 will cover Exchange Street. Find out what downtown was like in the past, what happened to some of its historic buildings, and why Geneva still has so many 19th-century buildings. Discover the stories of those that remain, and how downtown businesses were once the lifeblood of the community and its economy. Each tour will start at 7 p.m. outside Finger Lakes Gifts and Lounge at 60 Seneca Street. The cost is $5 per person. Payment can be made in advance at the Society office or at the beginning of the tour. Please bring exact change or a check if you pay the night of the tour. Reservations are appreciated. Open Mic Night at the Arts Center of Yates County
The open mic nights will be held at the Art Center on 127 Main St., Penn Yan from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. Ongoing open mics will be held on the last Thursday of each month. The Art Center Open Mic will provide a family friendly atmosphere for musicians of all ages, all skill levels, and all kinds of musical interests to come out and show their stuff, or play and network with other music lovers. Several local musicians will host the event: David Goodrich, stand-up bass; Bryan Flood, guitar; Trever Findley, saxophone; Barbara Anderson, keyboard; and Casey Kowalski, saxophone. There is no charge to watch or participate in this event. Donations to the Art Center of Yates County are always welcome.
