Making a Mark: 6th Annual Art Exhibition & Sale
Seneca Cayuga ARC Finger Lakes Artists, Musicians, and Entertainers Center for Creative Expression hosts the 6th Annual Art Exhibition and Sale "Making a Mark” Meet & Greet the Artists First Friday, September 5th from 5-7 p.m. Reception with light refreshments. Free to enter, art is for sale & proceeds go to the artist who created the piece. Located at 39 Genesee Street Downtown Auburn, N.Y. Questions, call (315) 252-7016. Making a Mark is about enabling gifted people to celebrate self-expression and empowerment through creativity. Marks and lines are fundamental elements of art used to extend one's expressive vocabulary. Marks like building blocks, are individual and discrete, descriptive, conceptual, and symbolic in nature; can be used to render almost any visual effect. The way in which we make marks in large measure determines our personal style. Think of your own signature. The way in which you form the letters which comprise your name is a unique set of marks with legal and psychological significance. Artists refine their personal vocabulary of marks to develop their individual styles.

Where: Fort Hill Cemetery, 19 Fort Street, Auburn, NY 13021 Please join historian and guide Laurel Auchampaugh for a fascinating tour of the beautiful wooded Fort Hill Cemetery overlooking downtown Auburn. Its hilltop location, fortified many centuries ago by the mysterious mound building peoples of North America, later was reputed to be the site of an important Cayuga council seat and village. In 1852 the hilltop was dedicated for its current function; it remains an active cemetery today. On the tour you will learn about the lives of several eminent citizens who are buried there, including the man first buried here, Judge Elijah Miller, his famous son-in-law William H. Seward, his daughter and granddaughter. Elsewhere in the cemetery, pay your respects to abolitionist and humanitarian Harriet Tubman, to members of the Osborne, Willard, and Case families, and to many others who contributed to America’s story. Take a tour of the Gothic stone Bradley Chapel, and learn the story of a 50 foot tall obelisk inscribed, “Who Mourns for Logan?” In the event of rain, the talk will take place inside the Bradley Chapel. Tickets for the tour are $10 for adults, $5 for students. These may be purchased at the time of the tour, or in advance at the Willard Chapel, 17 Nelson Street in Auburn during office business hours Tuesdays through Fridays, 10am-4pm.
