Join the National Park Service in welcoming LGBTQ activist Kitty Lambert-Rudd, and recognize women who are making history now! Kitty, whose marriage to her partner Cheryle Lambert-Rudd was the first same-sex marriage to occur in New York State, brings a wealth of experience in organizing for LGBTQ civil rights. She will speak at Women’s Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls on September 12th, and deliver two talks on her experiences. ETHEL String Quartet
The Wells College Arts and Lecture Series presents a performance by the exceptional and unfailingly vital” (The New York Times) string quartet ETHEL. Admission is free, and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 17 in the Recital Hall of Barler Hall. ETHEL will present their program "Grace," the centerpiece of which is an adaptation of Ennio Morricone's moving score to the 1986 film, "The Mission." Morricone’s score was nominated for an Academy Award in 1986 and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score. Thinking Across the Spectrum- Autism Conference
Autism Conference will take place on Friday, Happiness House has been recognized as a premier provider serving individuals of all ages exhibiting characteristics of or diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). ASD is a complex developmental disorder that emerges before a child reaches age three, and affects the brain’s typical functioning affecting their social and communication skills. Happiness House offers an array of educational, therapeutic, recreational, residential and family support programs and services for children and adults with and without disabilities. On average, Happiness House serves 1,150 families each year. September 18th, 2015 at Crosswinds Wesleyan Church in Canandaigua. Our theme is Thinking Across the Spectrum. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Temple Grandin, speaker and author of several books, who will discuss her life with Autism. Beef Quality Assurance training
Beef Training Planned for September 19 at Canandaigua Store A Beef Quality Assurance training will be held Saturday, September 19 at Runnings, a Home, Farm and Outdoor Store, located 3191 County Rd 10, Canandaigua. The event runs from 10 am to 2 pm with registration beginning at 9:30. Dr. Michael Baker, Cornell University Beef Cattle Extension Specialist, will be leading the classroom portion, covering care and husbandry, feedstuffs, feed additives and medications, processing and treatment records, and injectable health products. Dave Wilson, DVM will be leading the afternoon training, which will include proper animal handling and vaccine use. BQA is a national program for beef producers that provides science based management practices that enhance carcass quality and safety and improve animal care. BQA works to return more profits to producers and to protect consumer confidence in our beef supply. The BQA program is producer based, voluntary and locally led. In NYS it is coordinated through a combined effort of the New York Beef Council, Cornell University and the New York Beef Producers’ Association. Participation allows beef producers to complete most of the requirements for certification and qualifies for recertification. Being held at Runnings trainers and sponsors will be available to speak with the public regarding the proper care and management of beef cattle. This special event is sponsored by Runnings, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Merck, Merial, and Zoetis. The event is free but registration is required. Only those registered will be guaranteed lunch. Corning Community College alumnus Erik Dobell will return to CCC's Muse of Fire Theatre this fall with The Mind Invader: Erik Dobell, three amazing one-man performances, both mysterious and hilarious, on September 17, 18, and 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Science Amphitheater. Don't miss this fantastic performer who began his entertainment career in the theatre at Corning Community College. Now a successful mentalist, magician, actor, and comic who performs internationally, Erik earned his acting chops playing roles from the classical to the broadly comic on CCC's stage. Erik will also visit CCC theatre classes while he is in Corning, and speak to CCC students about his creative journey, and how he got his career underway. Living Healthy Chronic Disease Self Management Workshop to be Offered in Ovid
FREE Living Healthy Workshops are scheduled to be offered on Thursdays from Sept. 3-October 8 at the Edith B. Ford Memorial Library in Ovid. Living Healthy is a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program offered by Wayne CAP, RSVP Program, Seneca County Office of the Aging and Seneca County Health Department. The program is designed for those dealing with a chronic or limiting health condition. Participants learn self-management techniques and skills needed for the day to day management of their ongoing health condition. Sessions are held once a week for 2.5 hours for 6-sessions. These books will be shipped to American Indian Catholic Schools: St. Bonaventure School in Thoreau, NM and St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, SD. St.Patrick School began in 1894 and became St. John Bosco School in 2005 and closed in 2007.
