To Know the Crow: Insights and Stories From a Quarter Century of Crow Study
What: Monday Night Seminar When: April 21, 7:30 p.m. Where: Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 159 Sapsucker Woods Road, Ithaca Speakers: Anne B. Clark, Binghamton University; Kevin McGowan, Cornell Lab of Ornithology Title: To Know the Crow: Insights and Stories From a Quarter Century of Crow Study Description: American Crows have followed us into our suburban and urban neighborhoods, making them one of our most familiar birds. They have socially intricate lives, with more complex goals than converging at your local dumpster—in fact, socially, they are probably more like us than any primate. Ithaca is home to the longest-running study of marked American Crows anywhere: it is now 26 years since Kevin McGowan at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology first began banding them. Kevin and collaborator Anne B. Clark of Binghamton University will tell some of their stories, including tales of family values and treachery, stay-at-homes and travelers, dynasties and disease. Yogi's 1st Annual ASAP Walk & Roll
You may register for the walk or make a donation at https://asap.myetap.org/walk-with-yogi/ ASAP.org reviews and funds research annually. They promote awareness by hosting support groups and community fundraisers throughout the nation. Together with its membership, ASAP works toward fulfilling its mission to improve the lives of persons affected by Syringomyelia, Chiari malformation and related disorders while they find a cure. In 2001, I was diagnosed with Syringomyelia and Chiari malformation. I was told that it was a birth defect. My cerebellum was drooping into the top of my spinal canal causing my spinal fluid to pool. This was causing erosion to my spinal cord, which then caused numbness in various body parts and caused other complications throughout my body. Over the past few years, research has been able to find out that Syringomyelia and Chiari malformation is just not a birth defect, but also can be caused by trauma to the neck/spinal cord due to car accidents, sports injuries, etc. In 2001, there were only 3 stages of Chiari. Today, they have researched 5 different stages. Syringomyelia is a disorder in which a fluid-filled cyst called a syrinx, forms in the spinal cord. Over time, the cyst enlarges and causes damage to the spinal cord. Chiari malformation is a condition in which brain tissue protrudes into your spinal canal. It occurs when a portion of your skull is abnormally small or misshapen, pressing on your brain and forcing it downward. Although Chiari malformation is uncommon, it’s now diagnosed more frequently due to improved imaging tests. Thank you in advance for your consideration and your support. Yogi & Family For more information, please email Yogi at mbborys@yahoo.com or call 315-651-2657 Cost: Free - Any walker who raises $30 or more, will receive an event T-shirt.

Murder, Mayhem and Madness: 150 Years of Crime and Punishment in Western New York with Author Michael Keene
The author of Folklore and Legends of Rochester takes us on a journey into the past, investigating thirteen true stories of the dark side of local history. Drawing upon years of original research, often uncovering new clues, we learn of some of Western New York's most shocking crimes. Was Joseph Smith of Palmyra, the founder of the Mormon Church, murdered to prevent him from running for the presidency of the United States? What terrible event occurred in the village of Caledonia that led to a man being hanged twice? Who was Anna Schumacher and why did her mysterious murder in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery go unsolved-until now? Who was the Batavia woman who poisoned her entire family only to eventually be set free? What stories lie behind Rochester's first murder and the unusual execution of the killer? True crimes of passion, insanity, and greed are woven into these and other tales as we explore 150 years of Murder, Mayhem and Madness. Join us at the Phelps Community Memorial Library on Tuesday, April 29th at 7 pm, 8 Banta St., Phelps, NY 14532. (315) 548-3120
