Peppermint Sewn Seeds Fashion Show
The third Peppermint Sewn Seeds fashion show will take place Sunday, March 29, at Good Luck Restaurant located at 50 Anderson Avenue in Rochester. The annual event showcases the talent of local designers in Rochester and proceeds will once again benefit Girls Rock! Rochester and Verona Street Animal Shelter. Designer and creator of the Sewn Seeds show, Tanvi Asher, will present spring ready-to-wear designs from Peppermint and her 2015 collection of handmade couture bridal gowns from Asher Bridal. According to Asher, “This year’s bridal collection will be more refined and cohesive, with romantic elements such as lace and ruching.” Fans of her ready-to-wear can expect to see clean, unpretentious looks inspired by the current normcore trend. Asher is once again collaborating with her Park Avenue neighbor, World Hair, for the show’s hair and makeup. Also returning for this year’s event will be collaborating designer, Josean Vargas, of J. Vargas. With a continuing focus on bright and vibrant color, his resort wear will take a cool refreshing dip in Caribbean waters. The collection will represent a lively, spirited woman, with different silhouettes to appeal to all body types. New to the Sewn Seeds roster is Katrina Elliott, whose work embodies an ever-changing but cohesive style. She has selected a mixture of textures, colors, prints and silhouettes inspired from the past, present, and future. Her goal is to showcase a combination of garments meant for stimulating and fresh results. A cocktail reception will precede the show at 1:00 PM and the runway show will commence at 2:00 PM. Tickets will be available on February 16 for online purchase at Good Luck’s website (http://inspiredtable.restaurantgoodluck.com) and will also be available at Peppermint. Limited VIP seating tickets are $65 and general admission is $30. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event and a portion of the show’s ticket sales will also benefit the two charities. For additional information and media inquiries, please contact Tanvi Asher at Peppermint at 585-466-4396.

Seneca Lake Drums!
Have you ever heard the drums echo across Seneca Lake? The Native American Indians believed these sounds to be the drumming of the ancestor and scientists theorize the drumming sound may be the result of methane gas bubbling up from cracks in the bottom of the lake. On Friday night, April 10th you are guaranteed to hear the sounds of drums at the north end of Seneca Lake! Two Herons Drum Circle is hosting a Drumming Workshop to benefit Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association at the Ramada Geneva Lakefront from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, registration desk opens at 6:30 pm. Jim Donovan, an award winning educator and founding member of the multi-platinum selling band Rusted Root, is returning to Geneva to facilitate his new World Drumming Workshop. Donovan’s workshop offers a step-by-step learning experience, beginners are warmly welcomed, all that is required is a willingness to try. Participants will learn and play exciting traditional rhythms and songs from countries all over the world such as Guinea, Ghana, Congo, Brazil, Senegal, Nigeria and the Americas. Drumming with others is scientifically proven to improve your mood, relieve stress, increase mental focus and to support social connections. Discover why people from all over the globe have been drumming together for thousands of years. Even if you consider yourself “unmusical”, group drumming is an accessible entry point into the rewarding world of music creation. THE LINK BETWEEN KITCHEN UTENSILS, CAKE WALKS, GALOPS, TUBAS AND JAZZ
Canandaigua - Kitchen Utensils, a Cake Walk, a Galop (yes, that is the proper spelling!), tubas, and jazz are all part of an exciting and eclectic musical evening entitled "That's Entertainment!"offered by the Finger Lakes Concert Band (FLCB) on Sunday, April 11, 2015 at 7:00 PM at the Canandaigua Academy, 435 East Street in Canandaigua, NY. According to the FLCB's director/conductor, Gregory Kane, "The concert features well-known medleys from the George Gershwin, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Leonard Bernstein songbooks, as well as fun and unusual musical compositions focusing on tubas in their own concerto and kitchen utensils in their own march. We also highlight Claude DeBussy, Leroy Anderson, and Percy Aldridge Grainger, along with a Sousa march. We hope the audience will smile and hum with us as we play - beautifully lush harmonies of "Faure: Pavanne" by Anne McGinty to toe tapping swing tunes to the aural jokes of marching kitchen utensils, cake walks, gallops, and more. We even celebrate Easter! Come join us in this joyous musical feast." Tickets are $5.00 for general admission. 18 and younger are free. Mr. Gregory Kane is currently in his twelfth year of teaching music and is a passionate believer that music should be taught in all schools to children of all ages. As a graduate of The Crane School of Music, he holds bachelor degrees in both Music Education and French Horn Performance. He also holds a Masters of Music in Music Education from Ithaca College in addition to completing coursework at the Eastman School of Music. As a performer, he enjoys performing as a jazz pianist, as well as on the French Horn. He has performed with the Monroe County Music Educator's Wind Ensemble, Southern Tier Symphony Orchestra, Southern Tier All-Star Jazz Band, Greater Finger Lakes Jazz Orchestra, Hornell Area Wind Ensemble, Honeoye Falls Community Band and at various other free-lance performances. The Finger Lakes Concert Band (FLCB) is in its 30th season and is comprised of volunteer amateur musicians (with a few music teachers!) from all parts of the Finger Lakes region. Formerly an offering of the music department of Finger Lakes Community College, and now under the auspices of Hochstein School of Music and Dance, the Finger Lakes Concert Band rehearses weekly and performs concerts for the community throughout the year. For more information, contact Hochstein at (585)454-4596.
