Antiques Club Presents Stereoscopic (3-D) Photography on October 23
Diego Ruiz of Stereoscope Journey will present a program on Stereoscopic (3-D) Photography on Thursday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the Geneva History Museum, 543 S. Main Street, Geneva. The program, sponsored by the Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes, is free and open to the public. Diego and his wife, Kari (a plein air painter), have been traveling the country and the Finger Lakes region with tools in hand creating stereographic documentation of the culture of each region. Through extensive study, Diego has improved on a photographic process that dates back to the 1830s, leading to the release of multiple 3-dimensional books and the start of the stereoscopic New York Waterfall series. On October 23, Diego walk us through a collection of Finger Lakes region images, and it will become clear just how important it is to keep projects like these alive for future generations. Attendees will be able to view the projected presentation in 3-D with the provided special glasses. Books will be available for purchase at a discounted price. The Geneva History Museum is handicapped accessible. Refreshments will be served. Come and enjoy a beautiful recreation of an early American pastime.

Cindy Kallet and Grey Larsen in Concert
Cindy Kallet and Grey Larsen in Concert Saturday, Nov. 1, 8:00 pm 165 McGraw, Central Ave., Cornell Arts Quad, Ithaca Cindy Kallet and Grey Larsen are accomplished singers, composers, and formidable multi-instrumentalists (guitar, flute, tin whistle, fiddle, mountain dulcimer, melodeon, and concertina) with remarkable solo careers. As a duo, they're beautifully matched on songs and tunes that span traditional Irish, Scandinavian, Renaissance, Appalachian, and contemporary music. It’s been five years since they last performed for the Cornell Folk Song Society, and a delight to have them back. Cindy Kallet's understated skill, intelligence, passion, and droll humor inform the songs that have evolved from her New England life as shanty-singer, clam-shucker, naturalist, parent, and perceptive world-watcher. She is both a realist and dreamer and a gentle protester and comic. Her mesmerizing alto, like the voice of her friend and collaborator Gordon Bok, has a sea-washed honesty. Her music is deep and intricate, clear and soulful. Scott Alarik of the Boston Globe calls her “One of folk music's most respected songwriters...provocative, heartwise, and original...and a brilliant guitarist.” Grey Larsen, flute and tin whistle, has been dazzling listeners since his years with Malcolm Dalglish, Pete Sutherland, and Martin Simpson in the group Metamora. Oberlin-trained, he plays with authenticity and beauty. He has revived the earlier, wilder Irish style of “crooked tunes” with extra beats. Fiddle virtuoso Seamus Connolly of Ireland says it is “Refreshing to hear a true understanding of the soul of traditional Irish music in the playing of an American-born musician.” For those who make music, Kallet has a songbook and Larsen has written the acclaimed Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle, dubbed by the Chieftains' Matt Molloy as required reading “...for anybody interested in getting it right.” $15 advance/$17 door; $3 rebate for members, seniors, teens. Children free. Cornell students $5. Tickets: Ithaca Guitar Works, Autumn Leaves, Greenstar Market, Bound for Glory, online at www.cornellfolksong.org/ and at the door. Info: web or 607-351-1845.
