One killed in two-car crash in Covert

The Seneca County Sheriff's Office reports that on Wednesday at about 2:30 pm, Deputies responded to the area of State Route 89 and Hatch Road in the Town of Covert for the report of a two car personal injury accident. It was later determined that a vehicle being operated by 63 year old Marvin P. Roorda of 46 Hurlbert Hollow Road in Spencer crossed over into the Northbound lane and struck a Northbound vehicle that was being operated by Larry H. Potts age 66 of 7771 State Route 89 in Interlaken. Potts wife Mary L. Potts age 66 of the same address was a passenger in the car.

Roorda had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Trumansburg Fire Department and was transported to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA by Trumansburg Ambulance where he passed away.

Larry Potts was transported by South Seneca Ambulance to Cayuga Medical Center for pain to his hip.

Mary Potts was Transported by Bangs Ambulance to CMC for pain to her back and neck.

Both Potts' were then later transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where Larry Potts is being treated for a broken hip and Mary Potts is being treated for a broken ankle and broken ribs, both are in stable condition.

The accident is under investigation

Deputies were assisted on scene by the New York State Police along with crews from the South Seneca Ambulance, Trumansburg Fire Dept. and Bangs ambulance.
