Sustainable Best Practices in Our Parks Focus Group

  6/13/14 @ 3:16 pm

If you love your parks, the Geneva Recreation Department, Department of Public Works and the Geneva Neighborhood Resource Center would love for you to attend the first focus group for the City of Geneva Parks Master Plan. The event is open to the public and will be held on Thursday, July 19 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the GNRC at 430 Exchange Street.

The focus group will be facilitated by student interns from the Hobart and William Smith Colleges' Finger Lakes Institute Community Design Center. The public is invited to attend a fascinating discussion on sustainable best practices in public parks and provide their input regarding sustainable features recommended at parks across the city.

Additional focus group topics include: music and art in the parks, park features to address healthy living, youth programming, and neighborhood association participation in park development. Here is your chance to be a part of change and increase positive, healthy choices for resident and visitor enjoyment.

The Parks Master Plan originated from suggestions for specific park upgrades through the City's Innovation Hub (www.ideasgeneva.com), neighborhood associations' attention on the parks, and increased recreational programming interest.

The Master Plan will include significant parks programming and physical design components. The process will include
City staff technical team doing majority of research (including inventory of maintenance, existing park amenities, rec programming, needs assessments, best practice research, community partnership, and more).
Public input, an important component including the current Recreation Advisory committee, multiple surveys, focus groups, neighborhood association input, and public input sessions.
Research and design assistance from Hobart and William Smith Colleges' Finger Lakes Institute - Community Design Center's student interns.
City staff will develop facility and recreation programming recommendations and will be looking at marketing, educational elements, community partnerships, environmental conservation and sustainability components as well.
