Wilmorite Chairman Thomas C. Wilmot, Sr. announced today that the Wilmot Casino & Resort had hired two Seneca County women – as of May 2, 2014 – to lead the company’s effort in working with local residents and businesses to garner support for the project and help address any issues raised by supporters and opponents.

Joell Murney-Karsten of Seneca Falls is taking on the position of Community Outreach Coordinator and Tina Macdonald of Tyre will become Community Outreach Assistant. Both women will be contacting local businesses and residents on behalf of the proposed Wilmot Casino and Resort.

Murney-Karsten grew up in Junius and graduated from Waterloo High School. She received degrees from the State University of New York at Albany and New England School of Law. She is the former Director of Business Development for a construction firm in the Boston area, prior to moving back to Seneca Falls.

“Joell’s background in large-scale construction projects, marketing, public relations, and community involvement will serve her well in this position. I know she will be an asset to both the company and the community as we move forward,” Wilmot said.

“I believe wholeheartedly that the proposed Wilmot Casino and Resort will significantly boost the local economy, create high-quality careers for area residents, enhance regional tourism, and increase business and opportunities for local businesses,” Murney-Karsten said.

Macdonald, a life-long Seneca County resident, has a degree from FLCC in Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Management, and works part-time in the hospitality industry.

“Tina is passionate about the employment opportunities and economic growth potential for Tyre and the surrounding communities and will help us fulfill our mission of becoming a good neighbor to the people and businesses of Tyre,” Wilmot said.

The proposed Wilmot Casino and Resort project is ideally located at Exit 41 off the New York State Thruway. The resort has been meticulously designed to complement the culture and architecture of the Finger Lakes region and anticipates hiring 1,200 union construction workers, and 1,800 permanent employees for the casino, hotel and resort.

Murney-Karsten can be reached at jmurneykarsten@wilmorite.com or (315) 651-7039.
