The perfect end to a perfect season for the Romulus Lady Warriors girls basketball team who, on Sunday afternoon, brought home the first state championship in school history to Seneca County and their community of just over 2,000 residents.

Romulus jumped out to an early lead by outscoring the Lady Forts 15-6 in the first quarter led by Jessica Rhone's early shooting. They would extend the lead to as big as 19 points in the second quarter before Fort Edward woke up and ended the half on an 11-0 run.

Romulus came out of halftime with an early run extending the lead back up to double digits but Fort Edward would not go away, cutting the lead to just 6 in the fourth quarter.

In the end, the size and ball handling of Romulus was too much to overcome as the Lady Warriors and hundreds of Romulus fans in attendance celebrated as the final buzzer sounded on a 47-40 win.

Junior Zoe McDonald came up huge for Romulus finishing with 13 points and 18 big rebounds. Breanne Berlin added 13 points including several key buckets late as Romulus held off Fort Edwards late push. Jessica Rhone finished with 9 and Cheyenne Howe had 7 points.

The Romulus defense held Fort Edwards to just 23% shooting on the afternoon and Romulus held a slight edge in the turnover margin with 22 to Fort Edward's 24. The difference may have been the 16 second chance points scored by Romulus and the sizable rebounding margin, 48-29 in favor of the Warriors. Romulus didn't make a single three-pointer on the way to the victory finishing 0-8 from behind the arc. Fort Edward was 3-15 from long range. Alexandra Godfrey led the scoring for the Lady Forts with 17 points. With the win, Romulus ends their 2013-14 season at 25-0.

After the game, Zoe McDonald told Time Warner Sports, "This is the greatest feeling in the world". Coach Damon Nicholson said, "we worked so hard, these kids, to get to 25-0, it's just awesome."
