The 2013 George Bailey Award will be presented to the Angelo Sandroni Family during the “It’s a Wonderful Life Weekend.” The Award will be presented by Karolyn “Zuzu” Grimes, on Saturday, December 14 at 10:00 AM at the IDEA Center for the Voices of Humanity, located at 32 Fall Street in Seneca Falls, which is also the location of The Seneca Falls It’s A Wonderful Life Museum. The Award will be presented to Angelo Sandroni, his seven sons and their wives: John ("Cougar"), Michael, James ("Bucky") and Mary, Robert and Cathy, Thomas, Patrick and Ann Marie, and Anthony "Barney." The public, and especially those whose lives have been touched by the Sandroni Family over the years, are invited to attend the ceremony. To mark the 10th anniversary of the award, all previous recipients have been invited to participate in the celebration.

With its 165-year tradition of promoting human rights, Seneca Falls is a community that values and celebrates the worth of each individual, a theme central to “It’s A Wonderful Life.” Shortly before Frank Capra started filming “It’s A Wonderful Life” he stated that one of the main things he wanted to accomplish with the movie was to strengthen people’s belief in themselves again. The Sandroni family, through their simple presence in the lives of others, encourages people to believe in themselves and to believe in each other.

The contributions of the Sandroni Family have been described as “a trademark of the Seneca Falls community.” By serving Thanksgiving dinner to hundreds of people who might otherwise be alone, being actively involved with Habitat for Humanity, the Seneca County Community Christmas Project, the St. Anthony Italian Festival, Pageant of Bands, St. Patrick’s Church, the Seneca Falls Business Association and also helping to preserve the Italian heritage of Seneca Falls, the Sandronis’ belief and pride in the community is apparent to all. In 2007, Angelo and Laura Sandroni and their sons were awarded the Father Beatini Award, the first time it was presented to a family.

The George Bailey Award was created by the IDEA Center for the Voices of Humanity in 2004 to honor an individual who embodies the spirit of George Bailey by consistently contributing to the lives of his/her neighbors and without whom Seneca Falls would be a very different place.
