Latest on Ontario County manhunt after shots fired in Geneva

On Sunday afternoon at 2:57 pm, officers of the Geneva Police Department responded to a several calls of shots fired call on E. North Street, involving a black truck and other unknown parties. Upon arrival responding Geneva Police Officers located the truck involved and attempted a traffic stop.
The truck and its driver failed to stop and a pursuit on Route 14 North to 96 North was initiated at which time the truck lost control in the area of 302 Route 96 North, Ontario County. The driver of said vehicle exited the vehicle, displayed and pointed a handgun at the Officers and was subsequently shot by Geneva Police Officers. The suspect was taken via ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital and was released to Ontario County Sheriffs after evaluation where he remains in custody. Two or three other suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot and are sought.
An intense ground and air search continues at the time of this press release. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Department is coordinating the effort in the search for up to three others suspects and the Officer involved shooting Investigation as it occurred outside of the City of Geneva. No Officers were injured.
Ontario County Sheriff’s Department, NYSP Troopers, NYSP Aviation Unit, Seneca County Sheriff’s Department, & Ontario County District Attorney’s Office, NYS Parole & Departments from Wayne County all assisted in this investigation.

Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero said a second suspect was taken into custody shortly after midnight after he emerged from a wooded area near Route 14 and Cross Road in Phelps. Povero said the names of the suspects are not being released at this time.

Police have charged Jose Gomez Santiago and Alexander Rodriguez in connection to the incident.
Both men are from Geneva. WROC-TV in Rochester is reporting that a Santiago was taken into custody after Sheriff’s Deputies found him walking along Route 14 in the town of Phelps.
Police have identified the two suspects who are still at large after an overnight manhunt in Ontario County. Police are looking for Andres Escalera and Jonathan Rivera, both of Geneva.

As of 4:00 pm it is apparent that the remaining two suspects in this matter may have left the area. The following suspects are wanted for questioning in the pursuit and Officer involved shooting. The coordinated effort of the Geneva Police, Ontario County Sheriffs and New York State Police continues.

Rodriguez and Santiago were arraigned Monday morning and remain in Ontario County jail on $250,000 bail.
"The suspect did display and point his weapon at one of my officers and that time one of my officers shot at suspect and he received his wound," Geneva Police Chief Jeffrey Trickler told WROC-TV.
