Dansville man pepper sprayed after SF chase

A Danvsville man is facing several charges following a traffic stop in the Town of Seneca Falls. Town police state that a report was made for a subject that was at a local bar and was refused service and left the bar in a vehicle. Vehicle description was given to police and a vehicle matching the description was located on Route 414, where officers observed traffic infractions and initiated a traffic stop.

As officers gave out the information to dispatch, the suspect then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot from officers. The subject was caught by police and became highly combative with officers and resisted arrest.

Once handcuffed, the subject, Brian T. Barrett, age 25, of Chestnut Street, Dansville, NY was transported back to the police station where he falsely claimed he needed emergency medical assistance. EMS units responded and Barrett refused services and stated he was fine and no emergency medical assistance was needed.

Barrett was also observed by officers attempting to damage property once back at the police station. Barrett also continued to be combative with officers and struck an officer with a closed fist. The officer sustained minor injuries and had to deploy pepper spray to gain compliance.

Barrett faces charges of Attempted Assault 3rd, Attempted Criminal Mischief 4th, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, Falsely Reporting an Incident in the 3rd Degree, Failure to Keep Right, Open Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle, DWI, DWI of a 0.08% or Higher, and Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree. He was arraigned in Fayette Town Court and committed to SCCF on no bail. He is to re-appear in Fayette Town Court for a felony hearing on 04/16/13 at 1:30 p.m.

The Waterloo Police Department assisted in the investigation and arrest.
