|Geneva, Wayne & W'loo advance Wednesday night|
First round of Boys Varsity Basketball Sectionals continued on Wednesday night across upstate New York. It was a night that saw many top seeds advance to the quarterfinals and a handful of Finger Lakes area teams whose seasons came to an abrupt end.
Below are all the results from Wednesday night's action:
(2) Geneva 73 (15) Eastridge 51
The Finger Lakes East champions began postseason play on Wednesday night by hosting Eastridge. The Panthers easily advanced to the quarterfinals with a 73-51 victory. Coach Brian Miller's squad was led by senior point guard Shane Sweeney who led all scorers with 20. Junior Sims had 12 while Akia Jackson scored 10. Geneva moves to 18-1 on the season and will host Greece-Arcadia in Geneva on Saturday at 7 pm. If Geneva should advance on Saturday a possible semi-final re-match against Aquinas could be looming. Aquinas handed Geneva their only loss of the season earlier this month.
(4) Wayne 61 (13) Canandaigua 44
The 3-15 Canandaigua Braves weren't expected to be much of a test for the second place finisher in the Finger Lakes East when they met on Wednesday night in Ontario, NY. The Wayne Eagles easily advanced to the next round by defeating Canandaigua Academy by a score of 61-44. Tre Lamora led all scorers with 23 points while Paul Dinehart and Mike Hollenbeck contributed 11 each to the win. Wayne moves to 16-3 on the season while Canandaigua's campaign ends at 3-16. Wayne will face a 12-7 Greece-Olympia squad on Saturday night at home in Ontario.
