A busy night in Wayne-Finger Lakes boy’s basketball on Friday night included Lyons and Wayne continuing their hot streaks despite this cold weather and Red Creek picking up their first victory of the season.
Lyons 68, Red Jacket 56
Yesterday in the boy’s Section V basketball tournament hosted by Red Jacket Lyons stayed dominant, topping Red Jacket 68-56. Lyons’ (6-0) Tre' Johnson had a 14-point game while teammate Damien Scott had an additional 16. Devan Veeder led the scoring for Lyons with 17 total points. Mike Giaconia of Red Jacket (4-2) had a 17-point game with 11 rebounds while Cyrus Baker chipped in another 11 points.
Midlakes 56, Sodus 29
Midlakes(1-6) topped Sodus (0-7) 56-29 yesterday in the Red Jacket boy’s basketball tournament in Section V action. Midlakes’ Dakota Norrison led all scoring with 21 total points while teammate Mason Jones shot for an additional 14 points. Sodus’ Danny Meyer had a 9-point game.
Wayne 72, All-City Marshall 54
Wayne (7-0) continued their hot streak yesterday in the Wayne boy’s basketball Section V tournament as they beat All-City Marshall (3-6) 72-54. Wayne’s Ben Bobo had a 17-point game while Paul Dinehart and Mike Hollenbeck each shot for 10 points. Tre LaMora led all scoring with 25 total points. Shai'Quan Nicholson led All-City Marshall’s scoring charge with 14 points while Dennis Felder had 17 and Brandon Charles another 13.
Williamson 51, North Rose-Wolcott 48
Also, in the Wayne Section V boy’s basketball tournament Williamson edged North Rose-Wolcott (2-4) 51-48. Williamson’s (4-4) Rufus Hall had 15 total points while teammates Tom Stephens had 11 and Stevie Thomson an additional 16. North Rose-Wolcott’s Chris Dean had a 14-point game while teammate Jake Stevenson hit another 13.
Brighton 62, Canandaigua 43
Brighton (4-2) beat Canandaigua (2-5) yesterday at the Section V boy’s basketball Penfield tournament 62-43. Brighton Courtney Clyburn and Michael Hansen of Brighton both had 9-point games while Phillip Pellegrino led all scoring with 12 total points. Canandaigua’s Nate Bellis and Dillon Mergenthaler each had an 11-point game respectively.
Red Creek 72, Tyburn-Academy 37
Red Creek (1-7) beat the Tyburn-Academy (1-7) 72-37 in Section V boy’s basketball action. Red Creek’s Jacob Slobe led all scoring with 39 total points while teammate Ethan Durocher chipped in another 10 points in the win.
