Geneva Middle and High School were in lock down Wednesday morning due to an isolated incident at the High School. The lock down at the High School was ordered by High School Principal Greg Baker. Middle School Principal Carmine Calabria followed suit due to the fact that the school buildings are connected.

The lock down began when a high school student alerted school officials that a classmate brought a weapon to school. A Geneva City Police investigation revealed that a student brought a pellet gun to school. The student has been detained for further investigation by city police.

The Middle School lock down was lifted at 10:15 a.m. The High School remains in lock down until all assurances of safety have been provided by city police.

Classes will resume as normal as soon as the lock down is lifted from the high school.

“All precautionary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of our students,” said Superintendent Trina Newton.

Students are safe, Lt. Eric Heieck and Chief Jeffrey Trickler emphasized.

UPDATE: The lockout was lifted shortly after 11:10 am this morning.
