Auburn man killed in Camillus crash; investigation into cause remains active

A two-car crash in Camillus resulted in the death of an Auburn man, according to first responders. State Police arrived at the scene on State Route 321 Wednesday morning, near Flat Rock Road, around 9 a.m.

The collision involved a 2016 Nissan, driven by a woman from Liverpool, and a 2021 Buick, operated by 52-year-old Mark Lovell of Auburn. The incident occurred when the Nissan driver, heading eastbound on Route 321, lost control and veered off the road. In attempting to correct her path, she re-entered the eastbound lane, colliding with Lovell’s vehicle.

Both drivers were transported to Upstate University Hospital. While the Nissan driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Lovell unfortunately passed away due to the injuries sustained in the crash. Preliminary reports indicate that the Nissan driver might have suffered a medical event before the crash, with no evidence of alcohol or drug impairment. The New York State Police continue their investigation into this tragic event.
